These are a few of the most common types of out of warranty faults we repair:

Power / charging faults
Charging faults are one of the most common faults to laptops, they usually occur through general were and tear. We will always check the laptop charger first, if it is just the charger we do not charge for the repair and only will charge for the return postage and packaging.
Sometimes it can be earthing faults, over heating or even the battery, the most common however is the charging socket (block), these have the most ware & tare and common these get snagged and can rip the socket.
Charging blocks (internal) which have come away from the main board are repaired at a fixed rate of £80.00. Many times and just come away from the board, they are only really small feet holding it on. When we repair this it is usually stronger than before, also when we can (depending on the design of the notebook) we can pack it, so will be even stronger. If the socket is broken or cracked and we need to replace it, these usually cost around £10 – £25.
Damaged / faulty / faint Screen

Laptop screen repairs are very common mainly due to them being the weakest part of the device. It is difficult to give an exact quote for a replacement screen as we need to dismantle the laptop and replace on a like for like basis. There are various codes and serial numbers on the actual components, thus needing the laptops to be stripped down before a quotation for the exact screen can be given. This must however be done by an experienced engineer as to ensure no further damage to the laptop.

All of the repair work (engineer time) will be fixed at £45.00inc. VAT and the average cost of a new screen is between £50 – £200 dependent on laptop. We can repair all size of machines, netbooks, notebooks and MACs

We charge in advance for the labour but will always confirm a price for the new LCD before it is ordered. We will always try to get you the best price for replacement LCD

Motherboard / graphic faults
Most laptops do have all there component integrated into the main board. This does make them less accessible than a desktop, however they are still fully repairable.
Many of the faults and errors that happen when using a computer are linked to the motherboard, also the majority of motherboard issues are caused by the notebooks over heating. We are able to make various repairs to motherboards like graphics, wireless, controllers and most commonly the charging block.

Liquid ingress
Damage to laptops caused by liquid ingress is a very common and very repairable fault. We have special equipment and solutions to be able to dissolve most liquids.
The most common being alcohol and fizzy drinks.
Many times the liquid can get into different parts and components, sometimes it may be just replacing parts, other times it will be cleaning and restoring, we have plenty of experience in all areas.
The most commonly effected is the keyboard, (please see the section below) but it is difficult to quote without having the laptop stripped down at our workshop.
Keyboard faults
Keyboard replacements are one of the most common faults with notebooks.
We can either try to repair the keyboard, if it is just missing some keys or we can replace it. The way keyboards are designed is they have one complete membrane, if this gets damaged, often all that can be done is to replace the actual board. The main faults are either the keys have come off or don’t work.
We charge £20+VAT to repair notebook keyboards.
The average cost of a replacement keyboard ranges £20 – £50
Hard drive faults
Hard drive failure is only a major problem if sufficient back-up of the data has not been made. As the hard drive is an integral part of the laptop running, generally you can get the ‘blue screen of death’ many times the machine will show an error saying it cant find the hard drive.
Generally hard drives are easily accessible and we will be able to replace them including the charge of a standard software repair and rescue.
Our fixed price including re-installation of operating system is £49.00.

Overheating / shutting down
Notebooks that shut down after using for a varying period of time may be over heating. This can either be a fault with the laptop, possible the thermal coolers have broken, or possible is clogged up inside. This can often be caused by dust or possibly the environment it is used in. Many times the thermal paste (this is where the processor creates a bond with the cooling fan) can dry out, so the heat cannot dissipate properly.
Over heating can also be prevented by using cooling pads. We also have a range of these in our stores. These are especially useful if you use you notebook on your lap for example, as the air flow can be restricted.
We can strip down the laptop for our fixed rate charge of £80.00inc. VAT
Impact damage
Has you notebook ever been dropped or received an impact? Now if the machine has been dropped, depending on the fault is what it will cost:
Broken screen = £49 fixed labour repair + cost of new screen
Hinge repair = £49 fixed labour charge + cost of new hinges
Charging socket damage = £80.00 + cost of socket (if new is required)
Cracked chassis = £80.00 + any parts needed
Software faults (virus’, trojans, running slow, continual pop-up’s, etc.)
We can fix all types of software faults. Whether we can cleanse the faults or the notebook may need a complete reinstall this is covered in our complete fixed price unlimited labour repair and rescue.

Virus’ are a major risk to all computer’s.

Virus’ are not just annoying as your machine does not run properly, freezing and crash.
A lot of these are not the issue. Many of these virus’ / trojans will plant trackers on your machine. They then record every keystroke you make, but most serious of all, they will record any passwords and also bank passwords etc.

The most common signs of virus attacks are:
Signs of virus’:
- Computer running slow
- Ghosting on the screen
- Pop-ups
- You will be redirected to various sites which you didn’t select
- Computer freezes
- Programmes take a long time to open
- Programmes wont open
- You loose administration rights
- Delete and change files
- Reformat your hard drive
- Effect computers
- Network and the internet
System Sector virus
System Sector Viruses infect executable code found in certain system areas on a disk. There are boot-sector viruses, which infect only the DOS boot sector, this kind of virus can prevent you from being able to boot your hard disk, and MBR viruses which infect the Master Boot Record on fixed disks and the DOS boot sector on diskettes. All common boot sector and MBR viruses are memory resident.
File Virus

These are some common types of computer virus

File Viruses infect applications. These viruses usually infect COM and/or EXE programs, though some can infect any program for which execution or interpretation is requested, such as SYS, OVL, OBJ, PRG, MNU and BAT files. File infectors can be either direct-action (non-resident) or resident. A direct-action virus selects one or more programs to infect each time a program infected by it is executed. A resident virus installs itself somewhere in memory (RAM) the first time an infected program is executed, and thereafter infects other programs when they are executed or when other conditions are fulfilled. Most viruses are resident.
Macro virus
Macro Virus a program or code segment written in the internal macro language of an application and attached to a document file (such as Word or Excel). Infect files you might think of as data files. But, because they contain macro programs they can be infected. When a document or template containing the macro virus is opened in the target application, the virus runs, does its damage and copies itself into other documents. Continual use of the program results in the spread of the virus. Some macros replicate, while others infect documents.
Multipartite virus
Multipartite Viruses may fall into more than one of the top classes. Depending on what needs to be infected, they can infect system sectors or they can infect files.
Polymorphic Virus
Polymorphic Virus creates varied (though fully functional) copies of themselves as a way to avoid detection from anti-virus software.
Stealth virus
Stealth Virus hides its presence by making an infected file not appear infected, but doesn’t usually stand up to anti-virus software. Many stealth viruses intercept disk-access requests, so when an anti-virus application tries to read files or boot sectors to find the virus, the virus feeds the program a “clean” image of the requested item. Other viruses hide the actual size of an infected file and display the size of the file before infection.
